How We Evaluate Tools & Courses
Our promise: No BS recommendations. Every tool and course on this site is evaluated using a rigorous, transparent scoring system.
We built this site because we were tired of affiliate sites that recommend anything just to earn a commission. We only recommend tools and courses we would use ourselves or recommend to a friend.
Every recommendation goes through our 0-100 scoring rubric. If a tool or course scores below 70, we don't list it. If it scores below 85, we don't feature it in quiz results or homepage recommendations.
Full transparency: Yes, we earn commissions when you purchase through our links. But we'd rather lose a commission than damage your trust by recommending something mediocre.
Course Evaluation Criteria (100 Points Total)
We evaluate the instructor's industry recognition, teaching track record, and student count.
We assess curriculum depth, hands-on projects, and how recently the content was updated.
We look for evidence of career impact: job placements, promotions, and completion rates.
We analyze rating scores, review volume, and the quality of feedback.
We evaluate price vs. content quality, and bonus points for free trials or money-back guarantees.
We assess platform quality, learning flexibility, and mobile/offline access.
Featured on homepage and in quiz results. We confidently recommend these to beginners.
Example: Machine Learning Specialization (Andrew Ng) - 98 pts
Included in "Alternative Options" or category pages. Good for specific use cases.
Example: The Complete Python Bootcamp - 78 pts
Listed in course library but not featured. Acceptable but not our top choice.
Removed from site or marked for review due to quality concerns.
Tool Evaluation Criteria
Tools are evaluated using similar criteria adapted for software products:
- Feature Set: Does it solve real problems? Is it better than alternatives?
- User Experience: Is it intuitive for beginners? Good documentation?
- Pricing: Fair value for features? Free tier available?
- Reliability: Uptime, security, customer support quality
- User Reviews: What do real users say? Any red flags?
We immediately remove any tool or course if we discover:
- Instructor has plagiarism or ethics violations
- Content is severely outdated (3+ years with no updates in fast-changing fields)
- Widespread complaints about misleading marketing
- Platform has major security or privacy issues
- Course/tool was removed or delisted by the platform
Monthly:
Check for new reviews on top 10 courses and monitor platform changes (price increases, content updates).
Quarterly (Every 90 Days):
Full audit of top 20 courses using our rubric. Update scores and remove courses that drop below 70 points.
Annually:
Complete audit of all courses and tools. Research new options in each category and update rubric criteria if industry standards change.
